2013 Machu Picchu Challenge : Everybody up!

The “2013 Machu Picchu Challenge : Everybody up!” is a fundraiser to support the Moelle épinière et motricité Québec Foundation. With medical research moving forward, our financing needs are increasing so that we can support hospitals and university research centers seeking funding. To fund research projects that are submitted, the Foundation is organizing this challenge with the goal of raising more than $200,000. This will allow more than 40 participants to help make a difference and to associate their name and organization with the success.

In this sense, the Moelle épinière et motricité Québec Foundation is inviting you to participate in this great sporting challenge. Participants will leave for Peru in October 2013, but first they will need to raise the funding needed to achieve this inspiring goal.

The journey

Peru’s busiest hiking path and certainly one of the most spectacular on the continent, the Inca Trail is part of a vast network of trails spanning over 23,000 kilometers. Each year, UnikChallenge guides several solo travelers in Peru (with a private local guide or with an international group) on the “trek of the Incas”, which is 43 km long and leads to the cultural citadel of Machu Picchu.

Cusco, in the Andes, in the heart of the Incan Empire, offers endless opportunities for historical and archaeological visits. Cusco is therefore the starting point of this challenge for the Incan Trail. With the changes in altitude, we will cross an impressive variation of climates and ecosystems, as diverse as the highlands of the Andes and the cold misty woodlands. We will cross two high altitude passes before reaching the “Gate of the Sun”, which is access to Machu Picchu. The challenge will take place in the heart of natural landscapes of stunning beauty. Exuberant nature, hundreds of species of orchids, multicolored birds and dreamlike landscapes provide the ideal complement to this road, which is essential to any adventure in Peru

Participants will have a chance to win prizes from our sponsors!
